Jaipur is the capital city of Rajasthan and is also the largest city of the Indian state of Rajasthan. The city was found in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai. Jaipur is also named as Pink City of India.
The city is famous for its various Forts, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal and Nahargarh Fort. Janatr Mantar is also included into World Heritage Sites. In Rajasthan Jaipur is an extremely popular tourist destination.
Places worth visiting in Jaipur
- City Palace: City Palace is awesome palace in Jaipur and is surrounded by walls on all the sides. The Palace has audience halls, pavilions and also other important buildings. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh started the construction of this palace in early 1730s and continued till late 19th century. Near to the entrance of the palace is the Mubarak Mahal or also named as “Palace of Welcome” which was built by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh. The Museum unveils Kashmiri pashmina shawls, Banaras silk sarees and traditional embroidery.
- Hawa Mahal: Hawa Mahal was built in 1799 by Sawai Pratap Singh and was designed by Lalchand Usta. Hawa Mahal is a five storey building which has more than 950 windows. The Mahal was built in such a way that the women can have a look at the everyday life of the city. Hawa Mahal is located near the Johari Bazaar and gives a beautiful view of the whole city. The entire thing was built by pink and red sandstone and also has an archaeological museum as well.
- Amber Fort: Amber Fort is also known as Amber Palace and is the symbol of the royal lifestyle of the Rajput and is the flawless blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture. The Fort was constructed in 15th century by Raja Man Singh. The Palace has large gateways, stairways, courts and pillared pavilions. The Fort has Mughal style gardens called as Dil-e-Aaram and Diwan-e-Aam. The fort can be reached on elephants which are available from the main city of Jaipur. The other mode of transport available is auto-rickshaws and taxis.
- Jantar Mantar: Jantar Mantar was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II between 1727 and 1734. The word ‘jantar’ means instrument and ‘mantar’ is referred to formula or calculation. This monument has been awarded as the largest stone observatory in the world and includes 15 astronomical instruments of different geometric shapes and sizes. In 1948, Jantar Mantar was professed as a national monument of India.
