Shimla-the fading star of North

Some people call Shimla as fading star of North, but it is not true. There are several places that you can visit in Shimla. Here we have enlisted the same:

The Mall and the Ridge Road in Shimla

The Mall is the major street in Shimla and it is the main shopping center like in most other hill stations located in India. Here you can witness the restaurants, banks, clubs, tourist offices that are located in the Mall Road.

Tourists love to stroll across the Mall, view the shops, meet and talk to their friends and do some shopping too. The Gaiety Theatre is a replica of an old British Theatre and is presently there and is hub of cultural activities. Himachal Emporium offers a lot of handicraft items like pottery, jewelery, designed woolen material, etc.

The Ridge Road is a large open space that is situated at the heart of Shimla and this place runs east to west along the side of Mall Road. Ridge road joins the Mall Road at the Scandal point on the west side. On the east side of the Ridge road there is lakkar bazaar. In this bazar you’ll get a host of wooden craft items and material. This place is popular for the wood crafts.

Jakhoo Hill

This hill is situated about 2 kilometers from Shimla, and it is at an altitude of about 2455 m above the sea level. Jakhoo is the highest peak located in the area and this place offers a great scenic view of magnificent Shimla. There is an ancient Hanuman temple situated there at the top of Jakhoo hill and one can easily reach this place in an hour. You can even hire a taxi to go to this holy temple. But if you prefer mountain climbing, you can do that also.

Here you can see a lot of monkeys, but they will give you any hassle. If the pilgrims offer fruits or vegetables they readily accept. They walk to the temple through the dense forests of Deodar trees but the climb is bit tiresome, if one is not used to it. If you like, you can even hire ponies to reach the temple.

Shimla State Museum

This museum is situated at about 3 kilometers ancient historical sculptors and paintings of Himachal Pradesh. The visiting hours of the museum is 10 AM to 5 PM. The museum remains closed on Monday and gazette holidays.
