Sydney is the capital of New South Wales and is also the most populated city in Australia. It is located on Australia’s south-east coast of the Tasman Sea. Sydney is also the first site for European colony in Australia which was established in 1788. The city is also nick-named as “the Harbour City”.
Sydney is famous for its outstanding beaches and also its famous landmarks: the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. The city is also bounded by many parks and comprises of many bays, rivers and inlets.
Places to see in Sydney
•Sydney Opera House: The Opera House is located on Bennelong Point at the northeastern tip of the Sydney Central Business District. To its neighboring are the Royal Botanic Gardens and The Opera House is surrounded by water on three sides. The Opera House was built in 20th century. The Opera House consists of Opera theatre and a Concert Hall and three other smaller theaters. Throughout the year the house has various cultural activities which are produced by The Opera House itself for educational purposes.
•Sydney Harbour Bridge: Sydney Harbour Bridge is very close to Sydney Opera House. The Bridge is also known as “The Coat Hanger” due to its shape. It is also the second tallest structure. Its name is also registered in Guinness World Records as the widest long span bridge and tallest steel arch bridge in the world. The Bridge was opened in the year 1932. The Bridge’s southeast pylon is one of the key fascinations for the tourists.
•Sydney Tower: Sydney Tower joins Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge and this is bypassed by Australian Square Tower. Sydney Tower has three sections which are open for the public access as well. At the height of 879 feet is the open-air Sydney Tower Skywalk which can only be gain access to as a part of prearranged tour. The tower also has revolving restaurants for refreshments of tourists.
•Queen Victoria Building: The building was originally designed by George McRae as a government building but it became a business environment for tradesman and consists of coffee shops, showrooms and a concert hall. Now days it is occupied by many boutiques.
When to visit Sydney?
As the climate of city is temperate Sydney can be visited any time during the year as it has sunshine throughout the year. Normally, the peak season is during mid-January to mid-April and then from October to mid-December. Therefore, summers are the best time to enjoy Sydney.
